Creating Check-lists For Your Boat Maintenance
First go through your boat owner’s manual and review all the maintenance tips it gives and what needs to be checked regularly. If your manual has a maintenance chart, incorporate this into the one you are making. It is better to have one check list to go from than many.
Rewrite all these tips into an excel document in a check list format
List all tasks you need to perform on the left
Across the top divide the columns by the amount of hours you need to check each item listed on the left.
Divide your checklist into a winterizing checklist, a spring checklist and also create a checklist for every time you take your boat out.
Next add any other tips you feel your boat or things related to your boat may need
Ex. Check trailer lights and replace any that are out
Ex. Refill First Aid Kit
When creating these lists stop and think about what makes your boat different from everyone else’s. What have you added to personalize your boat and may need to check more often than others?
Are you using your boat in a unique environment and need to perform some maintenance tasks more frequently than others?
When this is finished you should have three different checklists that are made to meet the needs of your boat maintenance.
Print these lists out and laminate them and keep them on your boat.
A regular maintenance program can save you thousands later on.
