Did You Know There Are Mold and Mildew Resistant Paints?

Before you paint any room in your house, you need to think about the uses of that room, the lighting in the room and the type of moisture in that room.  For rooms such as bathrooms, kitchen and laundry, where moisture is prominent, it is very important what type of pain you will use.  Other rooms, such as bedrooms, living rooms and offices, you need to keep in mind where they are located to rooms that have high moisture content.

Bathrooms, kitchens and laundry rooms need to be primed and painted with mildew resistant paints.  Due to the high moisture content of these rooms, they create a prime breeding ground for mold and mildew.  There are two options for these rooms, you can use a mildew resistant primer or a mildew resistant paint, or to create the ultimate barrier, use both paints.

In other rooms it is important to keep in mind if they are attached or in a close vicinity to the moisture producing rooms.  If this is the case it is a good idea to use a mildew resistant primer or base coat.

To keep painted walls in their best condition, keep it clean of dirt and debris by wiping the walls down with a diluted cleaning solution on a monthly or bi-monthly basis
