Stray Current Corrosion is Entirely Preventable
To prevent stray current from affecting your boat there are multiple options. If you have a newer boat then zinc anodes should be built in to your outboard. You can also place extra zinc anodes on your shaft, prop, stern drive and hull. Keep in mind too much zinc on your boat can cause adverse effects also, so don’t over do it.
Another way to prevent stray current corrosion is mercathode protection or an isolation transformer. Both of these systems greatly reduce your chances of stray current corrosion.
Stray current corrosion can cause a great deal of corrosion in a small amount of time with out you even noticing. It is better to prevent corrosion than to try and eradicate it.
