Keep Your Seats Mold and Mildew Free
If your boat has any type of upholstered seating or furniture it will of course be subject to more than the normal household moistures. Give your boat furniture plenty of opportunity to breathe fresh air, keep it dry and when not in use either take it off the boat or place it on the boat where it can get some direct UV rays, and warmth. A good idea is to take the cushions and place them on their sides to get more exposure to the UV and warm air. If your boat is air conditioned use a dry mode if available at night or during the day.
The objective is to get as much moisture out of the seating or cushions as possible. Many boats use poly vinyl covers and foam inserts, these work well but are still subject to mold and mildew if not treated well.
To prevent mold and mildew on vinyl covers, wash down every few weeks with soap and water and allow to dry completely preferably in the sun. Then use a vinyl protectant to help reduce the chances of mildew.
Make cleaning your seats a part of you routine and you will enjoy many years of fresh clean seats and upholstery on your boat.
