Carpet and Flooring
While some people try to blame it on elves, there is no other carpet that gets so dirty so fast as the carpet within an RV. Because of this a lot of people forgo carpet for linoleum floor and washable throw rugs.
If you want to keep your carpet, here are a few tips to keep it cleaner for longer.
Clean your carpet regularly. Once dirt is on your carpet it gets ground in by the constant foot traffic and in turn breaks down the fibers in your carpet and soon you have worn down carpet in areas.
Pay attention to what you wash your carpet with. Leaving residue behind on your carpet can attract more dirt. If your carpet doesn’t completely dry out after a washing you could create a haven for mold and mildew to begin growing. And once that happens, you will need to replace all the carpet in the area.
Another way to keep your carpet cleaner is to lay down plastic runners. If you choose to do this, be sure to use the ones that allow for aeration underneath.
If moisture gets trapped under plastic on a carpet then you could have mold and mildew growth.
The use of a spray moisture guard can help keep food and types of debris from staining your carpet. Spilling soda onto a carpet can leave a sugar residue even after soaking up the excess moisture which mold and mildew can easily feed on.
