Nothing Ruins Rims Quicker Than Rust
Rim rust prevention starts with what your rims are made of. If rims are made of aluminum or chrome and they get scratched, it is rare they would rust, but some rims just have a coating of aluminum or chrome and if that coating is scratched to reveal a different material under, then it may rust. As with all parts of your car, the best way to keep rims from rusting is to keep them clean and in good shape. When you wash your car make sure you wash your rims thoroughly as well. There are cleaners made just for rims. Some people have been known to apply a thin coating of spray wax to their rims to add an extra layer of protection and keep them from rusting.
Wheels Need Your Attention Too!
Wheels need care too, without conditioning and cleaning they are succeptable to dry rot and a shorter lifespan. Clean wheels regularly when you clean your car and use special wheel conditioners on them to extend their life span and increase their safety.
