You Would Be Amazed at the Parts of a Pool That Can Corrode

Swimming pools and Jacuzzis, our summer play area, when in use we usually don’t have to worry about corrosion, when not in use the challenges do arise. Most of the corrosion occurs in the area of pool ladders, pool skimmer assemblies and any pool related mechanisms which are subject to the environment.

Some pool ladders are made of stainless steel, these will need extra attention as they will rust if not high grade stainless steel. Use a stainless etching acid on a sponge with a small amount of water, rub in lightly then rinse, if this doesn’t work try some Soft Scrub and rub lightly to remove rust and then spray with an anti-corrosion spray to protect.
Some of the aluminium products win out with fewer problems and less maintenance.

Pool skimmers do have some metal parts and do need to be dealt with to insure they do not corrode, use a light coating of Vaseline and rub into the exposed areas that will not be in the pool water if the pool is left empty.
If you have an automatic pool cover the mechanism needs to be corrosion proofed and protected from the elements WD40 or CRC will keep the mechanism lubricated and protected.

Another area of concern is pool chemical build up on the side of the pool, this happens for various reasons and a good understanding of pool maintenance procedures is essential.
Your pool will be one of your easier corrosion challenges compared to other outdoor home experiences; dealing with this area on a scheduled basis will eliminate a lot of problems down the line.
