Mildew Doesn't Just Occur in the Bathroom

When you first decided to tackle mildew you first need to see how bad it is and if you think there could be some that you can’t see.  If it is just surface mildew and in an isolated area then try either a bathroom mildew spray or a bleach solution on the area.  If the area has heavy mildew then hardware stores carry stronger mildew killers than most consumer grocery stores.

If you think the mildew is under the caulk or in another area you can’t see then it is best to remove the caulk, tile or other surface that you believe the mildew could be under.  Then clean the whole area with a mildew killer and re-caulk or place new tiles down.

If you have mildew in your clothes or on a towel you might be better off discarding the item and buying a new one.  But if that is not an option then first make sure the item is completely dry.  It is best to dry the item in the sun because UV light kills mold and mildew.  Next wash the article in bleach or another whitening detergent to try and remove the stain.  Mildew is a very hard stain to remove and sometimes can’t be removed.
